Crafting Japanese in the news

Two big pieces of Crafting Japanese news:

Craftypod interviewed me for a podcast about Japanese Craft Books!

Crafting Japanese got mentioned in a real life magazine that I bought at the store! Kim, the editor of Crochet Me, wrote a nice column for knit.1 about amigurumi and included this site. Welcome any new knit.1 readers!

I listened to the podcast - loved it!

By the way, zakka (emphasis on "za") is a term that can be used rather loosely as "all kinds of stuff" or "a little bit of everything." The particular character used for za is also in zakaya (general store), and the character used for ka is the same one used for kamotsu-sha (freight train). Other words using the character for za include zatsu-on (noise, as in any kind of sound that is not specific), zasshi (magazine - a collection of text and pictures of all kinds), zasso (weeds), and zappi (miscellaneous expense). I'm getting all of this second-hand from a native speaker who admits to being a little rusty, so there may be more modern translations for zakka.

Amigurumi is not specific to the toys; it can mean knitting or crocheting in all forms. There isn't a big divide between the two as so often happens in the US.

Can't wait to hear more from you on the CraftyPod!

Oh, and I got "amigurumi" wrong - "ami" is knit/crochet, "gurumi" means stuffed toy, usually a stuffed animal.

You did a great job. You are so clear and organized. I really enjoyed it.
