* Sew Fast Sew Easy

Sew Fast Sew Easy, i.e. the store that generated the book, has a neat web page. They have a lot of nice patterns for things I might actually make. The book’s been getting rave reviews from all the sewing bloggers. I paged through it at the bookstore the other day, and it did seem really useful. I think I’ll get it if I ever start sewing clothes. It has a whole section on how to fit a skirt, for instance.

Yeah, you might notice the date on this post is from like 2004 before their bad behavior was posted everywhere ever, so cut me some slack.

Actually I love sew fast sew easy. I am shocked that your opinion went from a good review to a well I changed my mind because everyone else is mad. Go along with the group. That’s it!

Who are you people who seem compelled to argue this fight out in the comments sections of random blogs? To state my position on this: I still think the patterns and books are OK (though I like the new Build by Wendy book better), which is why this post has not been edited. Knowing the situation now, though, I would not support, nor implicitly support through a good review on my website, a company that claims to own a decades old phrase and goes around harassing knitting groups. And I am not “going along with the group because everyone else is mad;” I actually have a friend IRL whose group was threatened and made to change their name by the company.

Now there are multiple reasons to boycott Sew Fast Sew Easy. While taking some classes there, I took my sewing machine in to get repaired. I asked for an estimate prior to the work being done. When I followed up on the repair, I was told the work had been completed — no estimate. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the staff including the president, Elissa Meyrich, told me that they are too busy to deal with details, their repair guy never gives estimates, and I should be lucky to have him work on my machine because he is good and cheap. Subsequently, I received a snotty, snide, sarcastic voice mail message from Ms. Meyrich (which she obviously had time to leave even though she did not have time to get me an estimate) telling me that repairs cost money and that their solution to my complaint was to refund my $25 deposit and then Sew Fast Sew Easy would keep my machine. I never got a sincere apology, only a sarcastic “thank you for arguing with them”. They obviously have unethical business practices and their “customer service” is the worst that I have ever experienced.

I bought my Juki machine from Sew Fast Sew Easy a couple years ago while I was enrolled in a class there and had a great experience with them. I then had my Juki repaired through them and I didn’t receive an estimate but it ended up being the cheapest I could find in the city. Other estimates I did get were over $200 for a simple repair. SFSE charged me $95 and some change. I’m now looking at getting the new brother project runway machine and am probably going to get it through them since I had no troubles with them in the past and their prices are the same compared with other stores. It’s too bad about all the negative press on these guys, they’ve always been good and fair in my eyes.
