knitting movies
I need to post this site before I forget where it is again. Stitchguide has great little movies of the different knitting stitches, excellent for when I forget how to do an increase. Rescue Magazine
I'm on the lookout for a new magazine, Rescue. I saw a thing about it in the newspaper describing it as a sort of Real Simple for men. Their website's pretty slick, even if there's not a whole lot up yet. Once I find an issue, I'll post a review.Posted under Wants at 06:53 PM | Comments (0)

gift tags
I just got back from a trip to Japan, and I got a good portion of my Christmas shopping done there. I made these origami paper gift tags to go with the presents. I like the look of those metal-rimmed key tags, but by themselves, they're just too plain. Add origami paper and eyelets, though, and they look much better.
First, take the string out of a key tag. Cut out circles of patterned paper. All the tags are a little bit different, so to get the size right, I put a piece of paper over a tag and ran my fingernail around the inside metal edge to make a little impression on the paper. Then I cut around the impression. Glue the circle onto the tag. Use a hole punch to cut through the paper exactly where the hole is in the tag. You could just leave it like that, or you could add an eyelet like I did. Then rethread the string and write the name on it. I'm not so good at cutting out perfect circles, but if you don't look too closely, they're pretty nice.
